Assessment, Recording and Reporting to Parents
Our approach to assessment is driven by a clear intent to support children’s learning, provide meaningful feedback, and inform teaching practices. The key aspects of our assessment intent are:
Formative Assessment for Learning: We prioritise ongoing, formative assessments that occur during the learning process. This approach helps teachers understand individual children’s progress and adapt the curriculum to address specific needs.
Summative Assessment: These are conducted at the conclusion of a learning period to measure overall achievement and understanding.
Personalised Feedback: Our assessments are designed to provide personalised feedback to children, highlighting their strengths and areas for improvement. This feedback serves as a guide for further learning and development.
Holistic Understanding of Progress: We believe in assessing not only academic achievements but also a child's personal and social development. Our assessments aim to provide a holistic view of each child's progress.
Assessment for Mastery: Our approach ensures children are given the opportunity to fully grasp a concept before moving on. Assessments are used to gauge mastery and identify areas where additional support may be needed.
Inclusive Practices: Our assessment strategies are inclusive, considering diverse learning styles and abilities. We strive to create a supportive environment where all children can demonstrate their understanding and skills.
Transition Support: As children progress through school, our assessments are designed to support smooth transitions between key stages. This includes identifying areas that may require additional attention and ensuring a continuity of learning experiences.
Parental Engagement: We value the partnership between teachers and parents. Our assessment and reporting procedures aim to provide parents with a clear understanding of their child's progress, enabling collaborative efforts to support each child's learning journey.

Statutory Assessments
Assessment in EYFS
The reception baseline is a short, interactive and practical assessment of a child’s early communication, language, literacy and mathematics skills when they begin school. This assessment creates a starting point to measure the progress children make.

At the end of EYFS, teachers submit final assessments made against the 17 Early Learning Goals to the local authority. These assessments are shared with parents in the children's end of year reports, as well as Year 1 teachers so that they can prepare accordingly.
Assessment in Key Stage 1
In July 2022, the government announced that end of KS1 assessments will no longer be statutory from the academic year 2023 to 2024 onwards. Schools may choose to still administer these tests but there is no requirement to report the outcomes.
In June, pupils in Year 1 complete a phonics screening check This is a short and simple assessment of phonic decoding. It consists of a list of 40 words, half real words and half non-words, which Year 1 children read to a teacher. Administering the assessment usually takes between four and nine minutes per child. At the end of Year 1, parents are informed of their child’s score.

Assessment in Key Stage 2
Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)– Year 4
The Year 4 multiplication tables check is an annual assessment of a child’s ability to recall multiplication and division facts. It is an online test of 25 questions and each one must be answered within a six second time limit. The test takes no more than five minutes to complete and the results are not published or reported to parents.

Key Stage 2 Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) – Year 6
SATs are national, end of key stage tests that children take in their final year of primary school.
At the end of Year 6, children complete the following assessments:
- Reading
- English grammar, punctuation and spelling
- Mathematics (one arithmetic and two reasoning papers)
- Writing is teacher assessed and based on pupil outcomes over time

School Performance
The Government provide the below link to enable all parents and carers to access school data. It shows at a glance how well a school is performing. It provides guidance and tools to help understand how a school is performing . It contains a brief overview of progress and attainment at key stages 1 and 2 along with other data information.
